On November 7, 2015 seven people met at the 18 Seaboard Restaurant in Raleigh, NC. The seven people present were Victor Vines, Travis Vines, Vernon Vines, Helen Collins, Marsha Cooper, Katie Staton and the honoree Leah S. Vines. The purpose of the meeting was to establish the Leah S. Vines Scholarship Fund. The scholarship fund, in the amount of $5,000, is from her three sons, presented to her at the Carver Alumni Banquet on July 4, 2015, where she retired as the National President after serving eight consecutive years. The Executive Director, Leah S. Vines, along with all board members bring extensive experience and records of strong leadership to the organization.

Purpose
Leah S. Vines, Executive Director recently retired as National President of GW Carver Alumni Association. During her tenure as president, Carver became the leading high school alumni in the area. Prior to serving as National President she served as treasurer and secretary of the local chapter. In her political career she served on the Pinetops Board of Commissioners for twelve consecutive years. She was employed with Puritan Sportswear as Head Supervisor, prior to Westinghouse and ABB Inc. totaling thirty-four years. After retiring in 2000, she continued to work for ABB part-time until final retirement in 2012. She was self-employed as a licensed beautician prior to public work. She was married to the late Joe C. Vines of which three sons were born; Travis, the oldest & twins, Victor and Vernon Vines. She is a member of Pine Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Pinetops, NC where Reverend William T. Keys is Pastor. Served as President of the Host and Hostess Ministry for many years before retiring the position.
